Good Kid 11/13/2017 - Dy'lhawn Hemphill

On Buddy Day there's one fourth grader you'll always find lending a helping hand.  Traci Teudhope introduces us to our Good Kid of the Week.

At McKinley Elementary School, there's a focus on kindness.  Kids are encouraged to treat each other with respect and they're recognized for being polite to their buddies.  Dy'lhawn Hemphill is one of their shining stars.

Jane Ross, McKinley Elementary Teacher, tells us, "he gives up his recess so he can help other students who have learning disabilities... and he's just trying to show others that we need to take care of each other in this world."

Ms. Cara O'Reilly is the Lifeskills Teacher and she just adores Dy'lhawn.  He says, "they got brung to life with a different kind of brain than other people so it doesn't matter".

Dy'lhawn is a true buddy, even willing to stand up for kids who are being bullied.  There's a lot other kids can learn from Dy'lhawn.  Ross says, "he's a true role model.  He's in 4th grade and that means there's a lot of little people looking up to him".

Dy'lhawn was overwhelmed by the recognition, but his feelings were undeniable.

Joe Askins, of Off Road Express KIA, says, "keep up the good work and keep being a good kid".
