Improvements to Downtown Erie get financial help from the state.
Governor Tom Wolf awarding Erie one million dollars from the redevelopment assistance capital program. It'll be used along State and French streets from Perry Square to 3rd street. Most of the money will be used to pay for improved sidewalks, lighting and curbs. Business owners hope it makes downtown more of a destination.
"Having this to really develop the area only increases the likelihood of that happening, getting more people downtown," says Hannah Kirby of Ember & Forge.
"I think the easier it is for them to get in and out and visit the merchants is all a benefit for everybody," says Russ Henry of Ye Ole Sweet Shoppe.
The money will also be used for the installation of new high tech parking kiosks.
