High winds cause havoc across region

ERIE, Pa. -- Many residents in Erie County are without power as high winds are causing problems around the region.

As of 1:30 p.m., more than 3,000 people in Erie County were without power. According to Penelec, the city is experiencing the most outages with 936. About 500 are without power in Lake City.

Downed trees and power lines have closed multiple streets across the county. Liberty Street between West 22nd and West 23rd streets is closed after a tree fell across the road causing low-hanging wires.

Firefighters said the road should be reopened this evening.

Emergency responders are reporting that traffic lights are out along a portion of West 12th Street in the city.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning that is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible.

Areas with reported tree or power line damage: West 22nd and Liberty streets; Route 97 near Platz Road; 7500 block of Bargain Road; 600 block of Cemetery Road; West 38th and Oakwood streets.
