It seems that Father's Day Weekend has become a reason to get airborne! The North Coast Flight School is hosting an open house today and Sunday 10 to 6 at their facility at the Erie Airport. They have plane rides in the WWII vintage C-47 troop carrier ( for a fee) shown above.
At Meadville's Port Meadville Airport, the annual fly in will be open 9 to 3 Sunday. Plane rides, demonstrations and lots of aviation stuff to do for all ages.
Also in Meadville, the Thurston Classic Hot Air Balloon event is in full swing. The activity is centered on Allegheny College's Robertson Field on Park Ave. They are scheduled to launch Saturday evening at 6:30 at Robertson Field and then attempt to drop a bean bag onto a target set up at a distant point.
On Sunday morning, the balloons will launch at a remote site of the pilots choosing and then attempt to steer back to Robertson Field to drop a bean bag on the target on the field. This will happen between 7 am and 8:30 am. The events are free. No rides are given at these events and Robertson Field is a smoke free facility. If you go, it is suggested you bring your own seating.
All events are "weather permitting".
