After years of renovations, the only golf course in the city of Erie is rededicated.
A new plaque at the Joseph C. Martin Golf Course, on Shunpike Road near the Erie Zoo, was unveiled Thursday.
The course saw nearly $500,000 worth of renovations over the past few years.
Improvements to the nine-hole course included a new drainage system, tee boxes, a new chipping green, practice range area and renovated greens.
The entire project was funded by the community and spearheaded by the J.C. Martin Improvement Committee.
Many people have learned the game at the city-owned course and Mike Martin, Joseph Martin's grandson, said that tradition can now continue thanks to the renovations.
"The golf course looks absolutely tremendous,” Mike Martin said. “It's been a very playable golf course. I remember coming up here as a kid and teeing off on rubber mats. It really is a tremendous complex for the community today. "
