Local leaders speak on no police cooperation issue

As Erie Police continue to search for two men wanted in connection with a weekend homicide on the city's east side, they are doing so with little help.

Merle Page Jr., 26, and 25-year-old Shawnquel Pennamon are wanted following a homicide on Sunday that took place at the Shell gas station at East Sixth and Parade streets.

Local community leaders said this is because of several reasons: Fearing backlash, a lack of trust and history.

Marcus Atkinson and Bishop Dwane Brock said an improved relationship between the community and police needs to be at the forefront of 2017. Brock said the key to moving forward and communication.

Atkinson also said there needs to be a better job of making people feel safe, secure and supported.
