Local man pleads guilty of stealing identities and filing 71 false tax forms

A 51-year-old man pleaded guilty to stealing dozens of identities from a local non-profit and trying to swindle tax checks from the IRS.  James Lamont Johnson admits to getting the information illegally from the Community of Caring on East 8th Street.

He is admitting to conspiracy to defraud the government and aggravated identity theft involving 71 false tax returns. Prosecutors say Johnson was looking to make over $100,000 in the scam.

Sentencing is set for February.
