Lyft vs. Uber

Lyft carried more passengers though June of this year than it did all of last year.

Missteps by its much larger rival, Uber, have helped Lyft make significant gains in ridership.  Uber has been without a CEO since June when the Co-Founder stepped down.

The company is also under investigation for allegedly using software to thwart city inspectors looking to monitor Uber drivers.

We did a little digging to see what the differences are between the two ride app's.  We found an article at https://www.ridester.com/uber-vs-lyft/ that was helpful.  It turns out there are pro's and con's to each brand.

When it comes down to it, the two are very similar.  They have similar pricing at around $2/mile, with price surging on popular days (holidays, etc.), but Uber gives more warning of these surges.

For drivers, Lyft is more appealing because it tells the consumer how much their tip should be, whereas Uber does not promote tipping.

Uber is more professional, where the rider sits in the back and can prep. for meetings, etc.  Lyft has more of a 'laid back' feel with themed rides (ex:  Harry Potter, Halloween, etc.) and they encourage the rider to sit in front and socialize with their driver.

Lyft offers a kind of car pooling, where Lyft riders can get a cheaper price by riding together, and offers discounted rates for group rides (six or more passengers).

Both applications seem to run smoothly, however, as we said, Uber is available in more areas due to its popularity.

And, both seem to lack customer service numbers for questions or concerns.

When it comes down to it, it really seems to be a tie; it just depends on the kind of atmosphere you're looking for as you ride.  The point is, both are cheaper than using a taxi service; and that's the point for their consumers.
