ERIE, Pa. -- An Erie County man charged with homicide by motor vehicle is headed to trial after he waived his right to a preliminary on Tuesday.
Matthew Gerrans, 30, is charged with killing Ali Fuhrman, 24, after police said he hit the vehicle Fuhrman was in at the intersection of West Ridge and Asbury roads in December 2015.
Police said Gerrans was the driver of a Volkswagen that struck the vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot. Gerrans later turned himself into police. He is free on $50,000 bond.
Gerrans waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday after the defense said they are doing an independent investigating into the speed and other factors based on video evidence of the crash.
