Wife charged with fatally shooting husband wanted to 'scare him,' police say

EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in East Springfield Friday morning.

Kevin Lucas, 46, died from a single gunshot wound to the face, according to police. Police said Lucas was shot by his wife, Catherine Lucas, 52, who used a .45 caliber handgun.

Catherine Lucas was video arraigned in front of District Justice Denise Stuck-Lewis on several charges including homicide and aggravated assault.

Police were initially called to the home in the 11600 block of Main Street in East Springfield Township for a domestic dispute around 1:30 a.m.

According to the criminal complaint, Catherine Lucas told police an argument began coming home from a night out and said Kevin Lucas became physically aggressive with her and threatened her with a handgun.

She said that she pointed the pistol at him to “scare him” and then fired the gun.

An autopsy will be completed on Kevin Lucas this weekend by the Erie County coroner.

Catherine Lucas remains in Erie County Prison without bond.
