Mayor Schember to participate in boxing match to 'Knock Out Homelessness'

Local leaders are gearing up to get in the ring for the 11th Annual Knock Out Homelessness Fundraiser.  The fundraiser strives to increase awareness of homelessness and to raise money to support the programs and services of the Erie City Mission.

Mayor Joe Schember, who will participate this year, says, "One of the things I'm most concerned about is can I keep my arms up for three minutes protecting my face? I don't know about that! But I'm going to give it my best shot and enjoy it the best I can!"

Co-Chair of Knock Out Homelessness, Ron DiNicola, says, "Everybody that's in it has had some considerable success athletically and in life and in other ways, but they bring a lot to the [event]. We're very excited about it."

Here's a look at the fight card:

"John Boy" Bizzarro vs. Lucas Marsh (Vice president of sales and marketing at Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services)
Lou Bizzarro Jr. vs. Andy Kerr (Erie City Mission chaplain)
Lou Bizzarro vs Erie Mayor Joe Schember.

The annual event is hosted by the Erie City Mission and Lou Bizzaro, Sr., a former contender for the World Lightweight Championship.

No word yet on the date for this event (which is usually held the second week of February), but you can show your support for your favorite boxer by clicking here to donate!
