McDowell Junior ROTC program honors veterans

Veteran's Day is Saturday but cadets in McDowell's Junior ROTC program didn't want to wait.  It was a full house of students, family members and veterans who attended the ceremony.  It included the presenting of colors, remembrances for Prisoners of War and fallen warriors and a flag raising ceremony where the flag is then lowered half-staff.

It's a chance to formally thank the veterans and teach the students some valuable lessons.  Major John Nygaard of McDowell ROTC tells us, "It's important that we take a period of time to recognize the freedoms that we all have and the sacrifices that were made to ensure those freedoms continue to exist into the future".

There are currently 158 students in the McDowell Junior ROTC program.
