Meadville City Council passes budget, fire department staff reduced

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Controversial cuts to the Meadville Fire Department became official Wednesday night.

Meadville City Council approved a 2017 budget with no tax increase, but the $9.5 million 2017 budget reduces the fire department from 15 members to 12 and overtime is limited.

There will still be four firefighters on duty except when someone is on vacation, on sick leave or a personal day.

Additional personnel will be called if there's a fire.
