ERIE, Pa. --The search for an elderly Ohio man in Erie has been suspended until more resources arrive.
On Sunday, the Erie Fire Department Scuba Team and the Erie County Scuba Team searched Presque Isle Bay near Dobbins Landing for 91-year-old John Peters, of Trumbull County (Ohio).
The Trumbell County Sheriff's office issued an endangered missing adult alert for Peters over the weekend. Peter's van was identified Sunday after being parked on Dobbins Landing near Rum Runners since March 1.
Erie Fire Chief Guy Santone said they exhausted all their resources in the dive, but a boat with sonar from the Pennsylvania State Police assist them in the future.
“If that make its way up, they'll pursue the water and if they find anything, we will send our team back,” Santone said. “Right now, it's just a wait and see, unfortunately.
According to police, he was last seen in his vehicle in Orwell, Ohio, in Ashtabula County on Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m.
The man, described as 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds, was wearing green clothes, according to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office.
If you have any tips or information regarding the whereabouts of Peters, authorities ask that you contact Erie police or the Ohio Attorney General Missing Persons Unit at 1-866-693-9171.
