More examination into GECAC/GEEDC, looking into GEEDC's tax exemption

The Erie County Board of Assessment Appeals is asking the county's Assesment Office to look into the Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation's tax-exempt status.

The GEEDC is the landlord for GECAC's main office at 18 West 9th Street.  The Assessment Board action comes just three weeks after former Erie County Councilman Jay Breneman raised concerns over GECAC's finances.

At their Monday night meeting, the Assessment Board reviewed some of Breneman's statements and asked Scott Maas, the Director of the County Assessment Office, to work with the board's lawyer, Dan Susi, to make sure GEEDC still meets the state's criteria for a tax exemption.
