More on Breneman's GECAC bomb

In his final meeting as an Erie County Councilman, Jay Breneman presents a five-page review of how one Erie County non-profit spends its county funds.

GECAC is one of more than a dozen agencies that receive unrestricted grant funds from the county.  For the past few years, Breneman says he's been analyzing how these grants are used and was surprised to see the numbers from GECAC.

In 2016, $25,000 was used to pay for its annual dinner, more than $25,000 was spent on gifts and meals for board members, and $23,000 was spent for sponsorship events.  GECAC CEO Danny Jones says in part, "Mr. Breneman's comments about GECAC referred to last year's budget expenses.  We operated under the county guidelines that were in place during 2016.  That year, Mr. Breneman never questioned our funding.  Since 2016, the county has changed some guidelines which we have complied with and we anticipate that there will be other adjustments in the future.  GECAC will also comply with those requirements."

Breneman, who couldn't speak on camera today says he wanted to present all this information to council before his departure.  You can read his full statement from his Facebook page here.
