Congratulations to Meadville Film Director, Heather Reichel! Her 2016 film paying tribute to a World War II Veteran from Crawford County is an award winner.
The film, 'New Boots,' will be honored at the 22nd International Film Festival in Cleveland in August.
'New Boots' is a documentary filmed and directed by Reichel and highlights the compelling war-time story of a local man.
In Reichel's words:
['New Boots' is the] story of a 91 year WWII veteran, Private Charles E Rudler, who was captured by the Germans and was a POW for over 5 months at the end of the war. The movie covers his trip to Europe, his time at war, his capture, his captivity and his homecoming as a first person account told in Mr Rudler's own words.

New Boots, the World War II Documentary, which was ﬁlmed locally and highlights the amazing story of local veteran Charles Rudler is now an award winning ﬁlm.
Notiﬁcation has been made by the selection committee and the results have been ﬁnalized. New Boots has received Honorable Mention in the ﬁlm competition at the 22nd Indie Gathering International Film Festival 2017. The award will be presented at the ﬁlm festival which runs from August 10th-13th at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center in Hudson, Ohio located just outside Cleveland.
The Indie Gathering International Film Festival is a four day event ﬁlled with screening, competitions, lectures and networking events open to the public. Ticket information can be found on the Festival website www.theindiegathering.com.

New Boots was produced by local businessman John Beagle, directed, ﬁlmed and edited by local ﬁlmmaker/photographer Heather Reichel and the set and costumes were designed by local museum founder and businessman Patrick Emig. The ﬁlm was shown at the Park Avenue Cinemas on multiple occasions during December 2016.
