Officials warn ice-breaking has begun on the bay

Presque Isle Bay officials are gearing up for the arrival of multiple vessels headed to Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair and Dobbins Landing.

According to a Donjon spokesperson, ice-breaking activities are taking place now through their arrival, beginning tomorrow, January 10th.  The following vessels will be docking on these dates:

•    Tug Defiance/Barge Ashtabula – 1/10/18
•    M/V St. Clair – 1/12/18
•    Presque Isle – 1/13/18 – Mooring Main Channel
•    Algoma Hansa – 1/19/18
•    Van Ekenvort Tug and Barge – 1/23/18

Please note that weather will be a driving force as to actual arrival dates.

It is expected that the disruption of existing ice conditions will be limited to the eastern portion of Presque Isle Bay/East of Dobbins Landing.  (This area should be avoided at all times). However, the public should be advised that all portions of the Bay could be impacted by this work.  Extreme caution should be used at all times when accessing the Bay for any and all recreational purposes.
