ERIE, Pa. - A parrot named Sweetie at Splash Lagoon water park is no longer on display, as its owners seek to find a more permanent home for the bird.
Pictures of Sweetie the macaw in seemingly poor health were shared thousands of times online, prompting a Humane Society animal cruelty investigation.
Scott Enterprises, owners of Splash Lagoon, is cooperating with the investigation and representatives say they are happy to work with the Humane Society in getting Sweetie proper care.
"Currently we are placing the bird in foster care, in a foster home, until we can find a permanent home for the bird," said Scott Enterprises owner and VP, Chris Scott.
"We got a couple calls from concerned citizens and we were following up on them," said Humane Society of NWPA executive director, Nicole Bawol. "We had a very proactive meeting with Scott Enterprises today and that relationship will continue to develop as we work with them to find a more permanent home for Sweetie."
Bawol says the bird was taken to a vet sometime Wednesday afternoon, after the investigation was launched.
