Penelec to raise rates 12 percent

ERIE, Pa. -- Penelec customers will see an increase in their total bill, but not as high as Penelec initially indicated.

According to a new release Thursday, Penelec customers will see an average increase of 12.8 percent, or $17.62, for a total bill of $155.51 for residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month

In April, the Pennsylvania Electric Co. filed for an increase that would raise every residential customer's bill as high as 17 percent.

The new increase will start Jan. 27.
