PennDOT technology to show where plows are located

When the snow flies this winter the people at PennDOT say they'll be ready and for the first time, drivers will be able to use a computer to see where plows are located.

PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards announced that the equipment is in good shape and the work is underway to hire nearly 500 drivers.  Other seasonal jobs currently open include mechanics, welders and clerks.  And, the new, enhanced computer system will educate drivers on road conditions before they get in their vehicles.

Richards tells us, "It's really the best place to take a look at 511pa.com and you can see what routes where our plows are we have AVL, automated vehicle locators in all or our plows this winter for the very first time".

PennDOT plows as many road miles as the state systems in New York, New Jersy and New England combined.
