Pennsylvania State Police look to increase numbers

ERIE, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State Police have beefed up efforts to recruit more members to the force.

The Pennsylvania State Police are saying "come get to know us" during a large-scale event at Mercyhurst University.

The university and the state police partnered for the event to get more people in the community, including students, interested in a career on the force.

The Pennsylvania State Police Academy has made a number of changes this year when it comes to requirements for graduation to boost recruitment because of an anticipated wave of trooper retirements.

Last year, the academy's four cadet classes graduated a total of 271 new troopers at the same time that 800 others reached retirement age.
