The fountain in Perry Square is taking on a different shade. It's all in honor of breast cancer awareness month, which gets underway early next week. Tonight at 6 pm, the fountain will go pink!
The public is invited to join Mayor Joe Sinnott and some special guests for the ceremony. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of education, early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
And, the "color of hope" was also part of the Erie Times News this morning. The fourth annual special "pink" edition was sold this morning outside of the Erie Times News building on West 12th Street. The pink paper is to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer which affects one in eight women locally.
Doug Oathout, Executive Editor of the Erie Times News, says, "we think bringing awareness to the issue and bringing some solutions and tips and resources about 'here's how you can deal with it' is a community service".
For a dollar you get the special edition pink paper, a doughnut and a bracelet. Part of the proceeds go to Linked in Pink, a partner in the event.
