Persinger asks Sinnott to apply for 'The Mayor's Challenge'

The Republican Candidate for Mayor has a plan to raise some needed money, but he needs the current Mayor to help execute the idea.

John Persinger called upon Mayor Joe Sinnott today to submit the city Erie in the Bloomberg Philanthropies 2017 Mayor's Challenge.  Over the next three years, Bloomberg Philanthropies will award a total of $200 million to American cities to combat blight, gun violence and the opioid crisis as part of its American Cities Initiative.

The city of Erie is eligible to apply, but has to do so by August 18th.

There is a lot of money at stake, up to $100,000 is going to 35 champion cities, $1 million to four runner-up cities and $5 million to the eventual winner.

There will be $17,500,000 in grants and tech. assistance to participating cities.

$100,000,000 goes to support 'bold and effective leadership in cities'.
