ERIE, Pa. -- The race for Erie mayor continues to get more crowded, as a longtime Erie resident and director of a local nonprofit throws her name into the mix.
Erie Playhouse Executive Director Almi Clerkin announced her run for mayor on YouTube, saying Erie's next mayor needs to be bold and she's up for the challenge of bringing people together and building bridges in the community.
“I’ve lived in downtown Erie for 50 years, and I’ve seen our city go through great times, and challenging times,” she said in the video. “Some people say Erie’s best days are in the past, but I disagree. When we work hard, there’s no limit to what we can achieve together.”
Clerkin, who attended both Villa Maria Academy and Gannon University, announced in October that she will be stepping down as director of the Erie Playhouse after this current season, which ends in August.
Clerkin will officially kick off her campaign at a public event in January. Details of the kickoff event will be announced soon.
