Police retract pedestrian death announcement

Investigating mix-up

Erie PA - Erie Police have retracted a confirmation made to Action News that the pedestrian struck by a stolen work truck had died.

Police now say that they have been informed that 83-year Raymond Bailey remains among the living. They are investigating the source of the mix-up now.

Bailey was struck by a work truck that police believe was stolen. They have charged 22-year old Jacob Doss with pretending to be hit to lure the Mayer Brothers employee out of the truck. He then jumped in and drove away.

Police also came to believe that Doss struck Bailey with the truck before crashing into the medical building at 311 West 24th Street.

A hospital spokesperson tells Action News that Bailey is in fair condition in the hospital.
