Presque Isle Deer Hunt 2017

Each year the Presque Isle Deer Hunt gives hunters a chance to help park staff control the deer herd on the park, but there are some things park rangers want you to know this year.

As a piece of land surrounded by water on three sides, Presque Isle naturally limits how much animals can roam around, so park staff use the annual deer hunt to keep the herd at the right size for park resources.  This year's hunt is planned for December 6th-8th and remember, you can't use your traditional long rifle.  Rangers say, "You can use shotgun a with slugs, you can use a black powder muzzleloader and you can use archery equipment for hunting".

The gates open early and a brief safety talk is required first.  Then, the entire park is open to the hunters for finding that buck or doe... with some exceptions.  Officials tell us, "Every park hunter will receive a map of safety zones so they'll know where those areas of off-limits are exactly".

Gates open at 5am, the safety talk is at the Stull Center.  Call into the Tom Ridge Environmental Center to reserve your spot at 814-833-7424.
