With the cost of gowns on the rise, one local woman wanted to make sure every girl could afford to go to prom.
In 2013 Lisa Bannister started Project Prom, a company that collects gowns year-round, and donates them to girls during prom season.
"It's a big deal to these girls, especially if they can't afford a dress, the looks on their face when they actually find a dress is priceless," Bannister said.
Community members have collected several hundred gowns this year. The first prom dress giveaway event was March 19 at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel.
The organization also made a big announcement Sunday's event.
