Roof collapse - "if someone was walking out... at that moment, they would have lost their life"

The heavy snow is putting a lot of weight on area roofs, bringing down gutters, awnings, ice, and snow.  One of the worst was in the 3800 block of Trask Avenue when snow and ice collapsed the home's front canopy and damaged the siding and porch.

Professionals who work to remove the weight from homes say the situation is more than costly; it can be deadly.  Jesse Lofgren of Absolutely Clean Window Washing says, "There was probably 5,000 pounds of ice coming down all at once off the edge of the roof and took down the canopy over the front door and destroyed the little porch... and if someone was walking out the front door at that very moment they would have lost their life."

Emergency crews say they responded to more than six calls of damage caused by snow and ice on city roofs.
