ERIE, Pa. -- Beer lovers get ready for new craft beers, local pizza and a unique brewpub atmosphere.
The Erie Brewing Co. has outgrown its current location on West 12th Street in Erie, but will soon have more room as it prepares to open a new 19,000-square-foot facility in Harborcreek Township.
"The building has some restrictions in terms of size, location, parking, access ... we really can't have a brewpub there. It is too small,” Rob Lowther, general manager Erie Brewing Co., said. "I mean we are pretty cramped."
The project at Station Road and Knowledge Parkway, near Interstate 90, is moving along quickly as the exterior is already built with the brew house itself expected to be up and running in April. The brewpub and pizzeria are projected to open in May.
The current tasting room on West 12th Street can accommodate only three tables. The new location will have room for more than 200 people.
"We are a distribution only sort of brewery that we kind of had to focus our beers to what sells, what can we send to the market,” master brewer Shaun Carney said.
The brewing company and the pizzeria, which will be run by John Belluzzi of John's Wildwood Pizzeria, will share the space for what they say will be the ultimate comfort experience. The new menu will also feature items to match the local beer.
"When you are in the brewery we'll have everything we sell plus some nice additional items. It'll be very nice," Belluzzi said.
