Construction is expected to begin tomorrow to expand the Scott Enterprises Upper Peach Street Plaza.
The Plaza, currently home to Dunkin' Donuts, Famous Dave's BBQ & Qdoba Mexican Grill, is getting a makeover to make way for new additions and renovations.
The new expansion will repurpose the building into a plaza that will be home to 5 new tenants and Dunkin' Donuts. As of today, Qdoba Mexican Grill will close. Famous Dave's will close on August 31, 2017. Dunkin' Donuts will remain open.
Construction on the $1.5 million, 7,000 square foot addition and renovation will begin tomorrow, bringing new construction, retail and food service jobs to the area.
As for the new tenants, Nick Scott Junior says he cannot release any names yet, but construction will begin tomorrow and last approximately six months. The first tenant is expected to open in March.
"We think there is a better use for that building and a better return on our investment," explains Scott, Jr., "and more jobs will be created [after an] investment in the market and we think that [at] the end of the day this is good news."
Most of the current employees of the two closing restaurants have been placed in other locations.
