St. Vincent and LECOM merge for home health care

Two major organizations joining together as one.  The goal?  To provide more effective and efficient home health and hospice services to the community.

Saint Vincent Hospital and LECOM Health sign a letter of intent to combine their home health and hospice services. Under the terms of the letter of intent, the Visiting Nurse Association of Erie County and Regional Home Health and Hospice will combine resources. Doctor James Lin of LECOM says there has been a shortage in nursing supplies and expert clinicians providing this type of home and end of life care. Both organizations saying the merge will make them a single, strong provider of effective and efficient care for residents of Erie, Crawford and Warren Counties.

They're also saying the consolidation will be done with minimal disruption to patients. Lin, Vice President of LECOM Institute for Successful Aging, says, "we looked at the market place and we looked at the partnership between Allegheny Health Network, as well as St. Vincent Hospital. We thought this was a community where, if we combine our resources together, we'll be better than what we're currently at with two agencies."

At this point, the consolidation is subject to regulatory approval. If all goes as planned, the merger is expected to happen during the fourth quarter of this year.
