Stephen Lee Kozak, 26, of Meadville was arraigned Monday night on one count of Criminal Homicide. He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Rita Marwood and is currently in Crawford County Prison without bond.
Branden Frantz, 19, of Meadville was arrested on several charges, including Criminal Conspiracy (Criminal Homicide), Possession of a Firearm with Altered Manufacturer's Number, Hindering Apprehension, Firearms not to be carried, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence, Obstructing the Administration of Law, and multiple drug-related charges. Frantz was arraigned this morning on those charges. He is also in Crawford County Prison, and his bail is set at $500,000.
State police in Corry arrested the two in relation to the fatal shooting of 21 year old, Jimmy Edward Johnson of Erie, PA. Johnson was shot at a large party in the woods off of Teepleville Flats and Eddie's Road around 2:45 Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at Meadville Medical Center after he was taken to t he hospital by friends. State police believe 150-220 people were at that party; responding Troopers were met by a dispersing crowd.
According to PA State Police, "During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Stephen Kozak received a Highpoint 9mm pistol from Branden Frantz at the party. After the shooting, Frantz drove Kozak from the scene and attempted to distroy/dispose of the pistol... The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated."
Crawford County Coronor, Scott Schell, ruled Johnson's death a homicide. He died of two gun shots; one to his upper, right chest and one to the lower, right abdomen.
