ERIE, Pa. - Two men are dead after a basement wall collapsed in a home near E 30th & Florida St. in Erie
In happened during the height of the severe thunderstorm at 504 E 30th St. Sunday evening.
According to fire officials, flood waters filled the street in the front of the home and extended all the way to the wall of the house.
Investigators say the two men had gone to the basement of the ranch style single story home to check out reports of water coming into the basement.
Neighbors said they watched the wall of water push against the front of the home and saw the basement wall collapse.
The two men were found dead in the house. Cause of death is unknown. The victims have not been identified.
A neighbor who spoke to JET 24 Action News said the neighborhood has suffered flooding issues for years every time it rains. Residents have often complained to the city about the issue, seeking a solution to the on-going flooding problems. The neighbor said this was the worst she had ever seen in her 6 years living there.
