ERIE, Pa - Tuesday December 5, 2017 - The only livestock auction in Erie County goes up in flames Monday night, but the owner is ready to rebuild and get back to work.
The two alarm fire at the Union City Livestock Auction on Route 6 destroyed the main barn around the loading dock and cattle pen, as well as the restaurant and dining area.
Collectibles and antiques, gathered by owner John Corwin over the years, all destroyed.
The fire was reported at 8:45 Monday night, only fifteen minutes after the last animal was taken from the barn after Monday's weekly auction.
Fire companies from across Erie and Crawford County were called in to assist.
A State Police Fire Marshal searched the grounds this morning, looking for a cause.
Corwin says he believes it to be electrical. But once he gets the clearance from his insurance agent, he plans to start repairs to be on track for next Monday's auction.
