UPMC Hamot and EmergyCare offer safety information to the public

Perry Square visitors learn CPR and more

ERIE, Pa - UPMC Hamot and EmergyCare set up shop in Perry Square today to offer safety information to park visitors.

The public safety event hoped to remind everyone about the importance of what to do in an emergency situation, before first responders make it to the scene.

Those who stopped by were taught hands-only CPR, toured an ambulance, and learned more about UPMC's Stop the Bleed Program - teaching basic first aid for victims of severe blood loss.

"Both CPR and Stop the Bleed are practices that anyone can provide to sick or injured people prior to the arrival of emergency services," said Fred Mirarchi, D.O., medical director of UPMC Hamot's emergency department.

Mirarchi said that with the busy Fourth of July weekend approaching, it's a good time to remind everyone what to do in an emergency situation.
