ERIE, Pa. -- Local municipalities have announced dates to dispose of Christmas trees.
City of Erie crews will pickup Christmas trees on normal garbage nights from now until Jan. 25.
In Millcreek Township, officials from Millcreek Recycling are asking residents to dispose of trees at the Millfair Compost and Recycling Center.
Residents can drop off trees on Jan. 14 from 9 a.m. until noon for the center's annual Christmas Tree Disposal Day. All stands, tinsel, ornaments and lights must be removed first.
A monetary donation is asked that will go to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen.
"People put it to the curbside and don't realize that it goes right to the landfill,” Millcreek recycling coordinator Jessica Stutzman said. “So, rather than filling up landfill space, we can take it out at Millfair, chip it, compost it and turn it into product for next year. So it's closing the loop and doing what's natural."
