The Whole Foods Co-op celebrated a new, natural addition to its parking lot.
A ribbon cutting cerermony, celebrating the Co-op's new rain garden marks the completion of Phase Two in the shop's ongoing 'Greening Project'. The project is a collaboration between Whole Foods and Environment Erie.
Leanna Nieratko, GM of Whole Foods Cooperative tells us, "the intention was to create additional walking space up front, but also to reduce some of the flooding and our environmental impact that we have as a retail establishment".
Nate Millet, Environment Erie, says, "it provides habitat for insects, birds, it uses native plants soaks up pollutants and soaks up water before going into any storm drains or anything like that".
A third 'Greening Project' includes an additional rain garden and solar panels in the parking lot.
