ERIE, Pa. -- A Meadville woman charged with harassment following an alleged police brutality incident with Millcreek Township police has hired an attorney.
Debbie Mullen, 59, said she hired an attorney and will plead not guilty to harassment charges filed against her in the Feb. 24 incident outside the Millcreek Mall.
Mullen claims she was assaulted by Millcreek Township police while she was asking why her granddaughter was being arrested. Video footage shows Mullen on the ground and handcuffed after allegedly hitting a cop in the chest.
Mullen's granddaughter, Tatiana, 17, was being arrested for shoplifting at Macy's and leading police on a foot chase, according to police.
Mullen said she suffered injuries to her face and leg from being tackled. Mullen filed a formal complaint on Feb. 26. after being instructed by another responding officer.
Mullen said she is waiting to hear back from police.
Millcreek Township police said they have no new information at this time.
