Chess in Concert A Dazzling Rock Opera At The Erie Playhouse

April 7 2014 The Erie Playhouse presents for two performances only the dazzling rock opera from three giants of rock music
The Erie Playhouse presents - for two performances only – the dazzling rock opera from three giants of rock music – the men from ABBA and Tim Rice - April 25 & 26 at 7:30pm

Chess debuted in the West End in 1986, following a well-received concept album that produced hits like “One Night in Bangkok,” and “I Know Him So Well.”Chess opened on Broadway in 1988. The concert version, developed by the original creators, received its TV premiere in June of 2009.

Chess involves a romantic triangle between two players in a World Chess Championship, and the woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any specific individuals, the characters' personalities are loosely based on those of Bobby Fischer, who died in 2008 and Victor Korchnoi

Director/Choreographer Richard Davis has assembled a monumental cast – Joel Gross is the American, Freddie Trumper, while Brandon Vogt portrays the Russian, Anatoly Sergievsky, and Kate Amatuzzo completes the triangle as Florence. Other featured cast members include Joe Greulich (Molokov), Leah Johnson (Svetlana), Bob Martin (Arbiter) and Patrick Thiem (Walter). A supreme singing and dancing ensemble completes the cast.

As a concert version there will be minimal staging (although Davis has promised several dance numbers), with the focus remaining on the dazzling rock score brought to vibrant life by the onstage orchestra under the direction of Andrew Rainbow.

Chess in Concert – “one night in the Erie Playhouse” you won’t soon forget!
