May 13, 2014- In an effort to combat crime, the City of Erie Police Department is unveiling its latest techniques.
Today, Chief Randy Bowers and Mayor Joe Sinnott introduced undercover police cars.
The police cars are not new. They are just revamped.
The department decided to remove the outer roof rack, paint the cars black and add interior flashing lights.
The cars are fully operational and will be used for the saturation unit and neighborhood action team.
A total of ten police cars will be transitioned for undercover use.
Chief Bowers says the transition was very cost effective.
