Classes Begin At Erie Rise Leadership Academy

Two hundred seventy new and returning students began the school year today.
July 9, 2014 - While most kids are still enjoying summer vacation, students at Erie Rise Leadership Academy are back in the classrooms.
Two hundred seventy students began their school year Wednesday morning. School officials say it’s part of the commitment to the students to never be away for more than 30 days at a time.

They say the purpose for the extended school year is to eliminate the summer lag often found when students return to school and the amount of time to “re-teach” students the first few weeks after summer vacation.

One issue still hanging over the charter school is the Erie School Districts refusal to renew the school’s charter.

The school board voted in April to issue a notice of non-renewal after recommendation from the Erie School Solicitor and an audit from the Auditor General.

District officials claim the charter school broke several laws including the charter law and state and federal laws.

Erie Rise school officials say they have addressed the concerns and it’s now in the hands of the Auditor General and they’re confident corrective actions they have taken are efficient and in order, and that Erie Rise Leadership Academy will continue to exist.
