Early Morning Shooting Leaves One Dead

A man died early this morning in UPMC Hamot after he was shot in the chest
July 11, 2014- Erie Police are investigating a shooting death in the city of Erie.

Calls for shots fired came in around 1:50a.m. in the area of East 10th and Wayne streets, and about 15 minutes later, a gunshot victim was reported in the 700 bock of East 10th Street.
According to Erie Police, the victim, described only as a 20 year old man, was shot in the chest before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim was found between two houses by a passerby, who called 911.

Police responded to the scene and spoke to the man before rushing him to the hospital.

The man died at UPMC Hamot at 2:15 am.

An autopsy is scheduled for this morning. Police say the coroner will release the man's name after the autopsy is concluded
