EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University recently recognized the research presentations and publications of Heather T. Snyder, Ph.D., of the Edinboro University Psychology Department by naming her Scholar of the Year.
The award, presented at EU’s Academic Honors Convocation, annually honors a faculty member with a continuing record of commitment to scholarship.
Dr. Snyder, a professor in Edinboro’s Psychology Department since 2002, is establishing herself as a premier scholar in the area of creativity and was elected treasurer for the Society for the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts, Division 10 of the American Psychological Association. In addition, she co-edited a book, titled Teaching Creatively and Teaching Creativity (2013), published by Springer Science + Business Media. She also wrote a chapter on creative assignments for the book.
Dr. Snyder’s other area of scholarship and service focuses on children and adolescents with craniofacial conditions. She founded and co-chaired the Craniofacial Special Interest Group of the Society of Pediatric Psychology, Division 54 of the American Psychological Association.
In nominating Dr. Snyder for Scholar of the Year recognition, Psychology Department Chairperson Cynthia Legin-Bucell, Ph.D., stressed that her colleague is a teacher-scholar.
“All of her scholarship is conducted with our undergraduate students,” Legin-Bucell wrote. “Not only is she conducting research, but she is teaching our students how to do the same.”
Dr. Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree at LaSalle University, a master’s degree at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a Ph.D. at Fordham University.
She has five peer-reviewed publications, including two in which she is first author; three invited publications; 13 invited professional presentations; and 17 peer-reviewed professional presentations.
She will chair two symposia and co-author with her students two poster presentations at the Annual Meeting of the American Psychological Association in August.
