Eight Facing Charges After Mercyhurst North East Fight

Numerous charges are being field against the people who are believed to be involved in the fight on Mercyhurst North East’s campus. Many who are facing charges are listed as part of Mercyhurst North East's men’s and women’s basketball teams. This comes after a reported attack after a party off Mercyhurst North East's campus January 19th. The fight allegedly broke out after two students got into and argument over a relationship with a male student. Four students were said to be injured as a result of the fight. Eight of the people who are believed to be involved in the fight have now had files charged against them. The charges include-- multiple counts of simple assault, statement under penalty, disorderly conduct engage in fighting, unsworn falsification to authorities and conspiracy simple assault. All of the defendants are awaiting preliminary hearing. Mercyhurst University released the following statement today:

 

"Mercyhurst North East is engaged in student conduct proceedings with multiple students determined to have been involved in a fight on campus Jan. 19. Disciplinary action has been taken against several individuals and more is expected. From the beginning, the university has sought the truth through a comprehensive investigation of the facts surrounding this event and has cooperated fully with local police authorities. In accordance with the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act, Mercyhurst will not make public the conduct record of individual students."
