Elk County man arrested in ongoing child pornography investigation
HARRISBURG - Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane today announced the arrest of an Elk County man as part of ongoing efforts to target the online sharing, downloading and distribution of child pornography.
Ronald Gregory Dill, 58, 207 N. St. Marys St., Apt. 1, St. Marys, Elk County, was arrested on March 7, 2014 following a three-month investigation by agents in the Office of Attorney General's Child Predator Section.
According to the charges, agents identified a computer on a peer-to-peer network sharing several media files believed to depict child pornography. The computer's IP address was later identified as serving the residence where the defendant resided.
Agents executing a search warrant at Dill's residence, encountered the defendant on his computer using a peer-to-peer file sharing program. A laptop computer and external hard drive were seized and later reviewed by forensic experts, which revealed more than 30 video files indicative of child pornography.
According to the criminal complaint, Dill has allegedly viewed explicit material depicting children as young as 3 years old engaged in sexual acts.
Dill is charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography, seven counts of distributing child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. He was preliminarily arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge George A. King and held in the Elk County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 18, 2014.
Attorney General Kane thanked the St. Marys Police Department for its assistance with the investigation.
The case will be prosecuted in Elk County by Deputy Attorney General Anthony Marmo of the Attorney General's Child Predator Section.
