EPD Chief: Most Crime Numbers Down Compared to 2013

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers says the departments increased efforts are paying off.
August 1, 2014 - Many crime numbers in the City of Erie are down this year compared to last year at the same time.

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers says the departments increased efforts are paying off.

In 2013, there were two homicides, 70 reports of shots fired, 34 aggravated assault by firearm incidents, 86 armed robberies and 93 strong armed robberies.

In 2014, there have been six homicides, 235 shots fired, 42 aggravated assault by firearms incidents, 45 armed robberies and 58 strong armed robberies.

Chief Bowers says the decline is likely correlated to the beefed up patrols.

He also adds that through the end of July last year, the department recovered 65 firearms, but this year they have 116 so far.
