March 4, 2014 - Pennsylvania’s top doctor for 2014 is from Erie!

The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) has chosen Craig Johnston, DO of Erie as its 2014 Family Physician of the Year. Dr. Johnston will be presented with his award at the PAFP’s 2014 Annual Business Meeting, beginning at noon on Friday, March 7, in the Aztec Room of the Hershey Lodge in Hershey.

Dr. Johnston practices with the Erie Physicians Network – University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a DO degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Johnston holds fellowships with the American Academy of Family Physicians and other organizations, is certified as a medical director by the American Medical Directors Association, and has several subspecialties.

Patients and colleagues of Dr. Johnston laud his gentleness and his compassion, and they are quick to recognize that he is a consummate expert in his field. “He is a standout, caring, highly competent practitioner of family medicine who always gives the extra effort. In honoring him, you would truly be honoring yourselves and your profession,” said one patient. “As a retired US Air Force officer with twenty years of active duty service, I emphatically tell you he is the best doctor I’ve ever had. Award him now!”

The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians and its Foundation supports its members (including nearly 80 percent of Pennsylvania family physicians) through advocacy and education to ensure a patient-centered medical home for every Pennsylvanian. The Academy and its Foundation are the leading influential resource among family physicians and physicians in training in Pennsylvania; the primary voice on health care issues with state legislative and administrative branches of government, media and professional health organizations; and the leader on health care issues in the community.
