Erie Gives to Nonprofits

It's one of the biggest fundraisers throughout the community and it has already raised more than $1 million for local non-profits.
August 12, 2014 - More than 300 local nonprofits are taking part in this year's Erie Gives Day and the total is already more than $1.4 million.

This is the fourth year the Erie Community Foundation has hosted Erie Gives Day to raise money for local charities.

Last year the event raised more than $1.7 million in the twelve hour donating window and this year the total has been increasing quicker than ever before.

Donations have been coming in from all over the country for the event. The Erie Community Foundation along with help from GE,Erie Insurance and Presque Isle Downs and Casino provides a prorated match to each gift made to non-profits. This year the match pool is $200,000.

Officials from Presque Isle Downs and Casino says it's always great to be able to help as many organizations throughout the community as possible.

The fundraiser goes until 8 p.m.
