Erie Takes the Beach to the 'Burgh

Market Square in Pittsburgh got the Beach treatment this morning as sand sculptors brought the beach to the Burgh.
Erie, PA: VisitErie is bringing the beaches of Presque Isle to Downtown Pittsburgh on Thursday June 12th as part of the “Hello Summer, Hello Erie!” advertising campaign. Promoting Erie’s beaches and nearby affordable family fun, VisitErie will sponsor the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Farmers Market in Market Square from 10 AM – 2 PM. The VisitErie Street Team will hand out information on Erie’s attractions to approximately 7-10,000 people who fill the Square every week to check out the Farmers’ Market and its events.
In addition to the Street Team, this “Market Square Beach Party” will feature the Travel Channel’s “Sand Masters”, who will use five tons of sand to create a VisitErie themed sand sculpture incorporating the VisitErie logo, sand castle and cartoon style lake fish. Sand Masters is an American reality-television series that premiered June 1, 2011 on the Travel Channel. The show follows a team of sand sculptors as they travel to various locales to create elaborate sand structures for their business clients. With two seasons of Sand Masters airing on Travel Channel the Sand Guys have become the most recognized sand sculptors in the world. Their sculptures have been seen and enjoyed by millions in over thirty countries and nearly every state in the Union.
Tall Kathy from 96.1 KISS FM (WKST) will be the Beach Party hostess, broadcasting live from 11 AM to 1 PM. VisitErie games, giveaways and contests will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on the main stage along with the KISS FM prize wheel and live beach music by John McDonald.
